At Least 40~50 Years of Durability From Corrosion Resistance and Abrasion Resistance

Necessity of Covering (Coating) for C.S.P

  • The Korean Society of Civil Engineers performed a survey jointly with POSCO, Korea Iron and Steel Association, and university professors on the current status of the corrugated steel spiral pipe that remained buried in 38 sites in the nation. The result showed that pipes under normal condition in terms of soil quality and aqueous solution (pH 5 ~ 10, abrasion levels 1 and 2) had the existing service life (50 years and more for 1.6t), whereas those under worse water quality condition (pH of 4 and below, 12 or above) and abrasion levels 3 and 4 had significantly reduced service life due to damaged galvanized zinc plating.
In particular, the pipes that had remained buried for just 0.8 years/1.3 years had service life that had been reduced by as much as about 71% and 84%, respectively, compared to the existing service life; thus leading to the conclusion that corrugated steel spiral pipes had to be coated with PE, asphalt, etc. (Refer to Daeun¡¯s technical information package.)
